Today’s musical motivation is aimed to put a big smile on your face! There are some songs out there that once you hear them, they automatically put you in a great mood. This is definitely one of them for me. I chose the Michael Buble version because as much as I LOVE Nina Simone, his cover feels a bt more upbeat. Put a smile on your face and listen:

I thought they couldn’t outdo themselves…I was wrong. Behold, the ShakeWeight for Men! I still can’t believe this is a real product. Listen to their testimonials…hilarious:
Would any of you actually use this product if it works as good as it says it does??

This is for all of my 80’s babies out there….my favorite theme song, Reading Rainbow! I used to love this show. So please understand my sadness at hearing that the show is coming to the end of it’s 26-year run on PBS. According to NPR, the show lost it’s financial backing because:
“the funding crunch is partially to blame, but the decision to end Reading Rainbow can also be traced to a shift in the philosophy of educational television programming. The change started with the Department of Education under the Bush administration, which wanted to see a much heavier focus on the basic tools of reading — like phonics and spelling.”
Basically, the thought as to why the show is being canceled is because Bush’s administration aloocated funding to teaching kids how to read. According to John Grant, the Content Manager at Reading Rainbow’s home station, “Reading Rainbow taught kids why to read – [the show] encouraged kids to pick up a book and to read.”
I definitely think that this show helped to ignite my own passion for reading at a young age. It helped to teach me that reading could take you on adventures you may not have thought possible, it sparked my imagination. It seems so silly to me that this kind of programming can’t get funding but there is someone out there will to put money behind “Flavor of Love 3″.
Ugh. Bush.

I feel like this song is applicable to so many people in “uneven” relationships. And by uneven, I mean one person has the control. Sometimes you gotta just stand up and tell them “I’m Not Your Toy”. If you like British Electropopish style music and you are up on La Roux or you just need a new anthem…this one is for you:

I know, I know…you guys are thinking “Seriously Tam, another Tim Burton post?” But, yes! This is a great interview with Tim Burton discussing his collection at the MoMA. It’s super dope because it shows a lot of his never-before seen drawings. Check it:

This is great. This bank robber is cuffed and being frisked by the cops when one of the officers puts a piece of paper on the hood of the car. We later find out that the paper was a note used to hold-up the teller at the bank. The suspect, who I actually give credit to for thinking quick, gobbles that evidence up like Thanksgiving Dinner. So, suprisingly, my last post on Lady Gaga created a bit of a debate on whether she is a true artist or just playing the part. I mentioned I was torn, mainly due to her crazy outfits and not because of her music (which I like)…I am no longer. I just saw this clip of her playing a show back in 2006 at the Cutting Room in NYC (awesome place, I’ve watched my friends’ band Emergency Service play there numerous times). She kills her performance. Seriously. I love watching a female singer perform while playing piano, I just think it’s such a talent to be able to do that. Fiona Apple, Alicia Keys, Amanda from the Dresden Dolls and now Lady Gaga…are my some of my favorites in that respect.
Check out this clip where she performs two songs she wrote, Wonderland and Fever. The second song is fire! Her vocals are dope and her overtly-sexual personality is apparent even back then. I still think the persona is very calculated, but I give her props for having the vision from the get-go. Listen:

For all my New York peoples, beginning Nov. 22 (my birthday!) the MoMA is hosting an exhibition dedicated to the art of one of my favorite directors, Tim Burton. I implore (yes, implore) you to go and check it out. I had the chance to see a mini-exhibition of some of his work a few years back and it was really amazing. It’s times like this that make me really miss NYC, so go for me and let me know how it is

While we are on the topic of one of my favorite directors, he happens to be coming out with a little film called Alice in Wonderland. I mentioned my excitement for this film back in June, and now that the poster has been revealed, I can’t wait!! Counting down the days for this one….
