The Jersey Shore and why this show is amazing….

As we all know by now, the hearts of America have been won over by a team of fist-pumping, orange-skinned, hair jell murderers better known as the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore. For me personally, it was love at first “Ey Yo!”

Living in New York, the Guido’s and Guidette’s were alive and well in the city every Friday and Saturday night when the Bridge and Tunnel crowds would attempt to take over Manhattan. The fact that once a week, I get an hour of watching them fight, drink, hook-up and do what I guess some people would call “dancing” makes me very happy. The show has turned into a phenomenon of sorts and I am here to examine why.

Snooki aka Snookers aka Snickems aka Snickers. The self-titled “Queen of the Guidettes” quickly became one of the most popular cast-members on the show because of her hair, her proclamation of all things Italian, her pickle-sucking and the now infamous punch heard round the world. Personally, she danced right into my heart with class and style with this little number:

Exhibit B:

The Situation. Better know for “pretty much looking like Rambo with his shirt off” (his words, not mine). The Situation is mike-jersey-shorebasically only interested in himself and hooking up with girls. This combination makes for some of the greatest quotes on the show. Please see below:

“I mean this situation is gonna be indescribable, you can’t even describe the situation that you’re about to get into the situation.”

“Basically, one of these girls was definitely more cuter than the other and it happened to be my girl & Pauly D was with “the grenade.”  When you go into battle, you need to have some friends with you so that just in case a grenade gets thrown at you, one of your buddies takes it first.”

“Stephanie is a girl I met at Bamboo, and she’s actually a pretty girl that I’m attracted to, to the point where I’d rather do sweet things for you instead of, ya know, just come home and hook-up, it’s like a different situation.”

Many people are getting all riled up claiming that the show is not portraying Italians properly. As Snooki so eloquently put it:

“The Italian, whatever, national, whatever their organization is…They don’t understand that guidos and guidettes are good-looking people that, you know, like to make a scene and be the center of attention and just take care of themselves. They are old fashioned. They think it’s offensive, because maybe in their time it was offensive, but now it’s kind of a compliment. So they don’t understand that and that is what we are trying to say. They are way over reacting to the show. We’re 22 to 29 just having fun at the shore.”

What do you guys think of this show?

  1. I grew up in jersey and I used to go to Seaside aka “sleazeside” every summer. And the funniest thing for me is that nothing has changed since the 12 years that I was last there. It’s amazing. It’s as if they are all stuck in a time warp. Everybody still looks the same, same hairstyles, same amount of hair gel, same fashion, same music, same horrible dancing, same guido accents. I mean for god sake they are still wearing chains on their jeans!!!

  2. haha i love how these guys are convinced that they are hugely famous because they are the epitome of “cool” when in reality, they don’t realize that the world is laughing at them.
